As the Holiday seasons are here, we tend to get out of control with eating and drinking. The key is to remember small portions and drink lots of water.
Once you get back on track you must stay motivated in keeping your health and fitness regime. I know at times in this weight loss program that you become frustrated. I tell my clients all the time be patient and continue to work hard. Stay consistent!!! And stay off the scale. That can be a demotivator. If your weight doesn't change but your clothes are loose, then you have gain muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. If you are gaining weight and see not changes in your clothes, you might need to change your eating habits or get another physical. Potentially that is a sign of thyroid issues, making almost impossible to lose weight without a strict eating regime.
Also if you are losing weight, but the number is small. Remember something is better than nothing. There are many benefits to losing numbers.

CAM NEWTON WINS IT ALL!!!

Cam Newton has certainly has taken a beating from the media and other critics. He has now shut everyone down again with winning the Heisman. Congrats Cam!!! I think he is the best athlete this year barnone. Some may disagree, but check his stats. Anyway, with all the allegations that were surrounding him and his father was a sure sign of destruction, but he rose like a true class act athlete. May he continue to have a great future in football and grow as man of God.
STRETCH and STRENGTHEN

Guess What? Dumbbells can undo your tight spots. The firmers below were shown to increase overall flexibility by 92% in five weeks in a study at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Researchers say that contracting, then relaxing a muscle allows it to stretch more than it did pretoning. Try four sets of 10 reps each move; what have you got to loosen?
Shoulders:- Stand holding a barbell in front of chest, elbows bent, palms facing forward by shoulders; press arms overhead. Lower barbell behind head to touch upper back.
Hip Flexors:- Lunge forward with left leg, bending knee 9 degrees, and lower right knee to floor. Return to standing; repeat with right leg to complete 1 rep.
Butt:
- Stand with feet just wider than shoulder-width apart and toes pointed out 45 degrees, then bend knees until thighs are slightly lower than parallel to floor.
Hamstrings:- Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a single dumbbell in both hands in front of hips. with back flat, hinge at waist to lower weight toward floor.

NO EXCUSES....

At work I tend to read "The Week" magazine and review alot of political and health science articles. I came across a great story about a 100 year old male athlete that continues to defeat gravity.
John Hodgson of Leeds, England, had always been an athlete. But when he hit the age of 90, he found he could no longer run competitively. So he promptly took up indoor rowing instead. Now 100, Hodgson is set top become the oldest participant in the British Indoor Rowing Championship, the world's largest indoor rowing event, which takes place in Birmingham this week. The winner usually finishes the 2,000-meter race in under six minutes; Hodgson hopes to make it in 10 minutes 30 seconds. "I've been keeping fit since I was a teenager, and it's always been a passion of mine, " he said. "You need great determination."
Winter Weight Watchers

Does your body really want to gain weight during the long winter season. Maybe? An article in Glamour magazine has stated that your body wants to the gain the extra weight.
Why? Well You tend to be overstressed due the everything from the holiday demands. The longer you have high levels of the stress hormone cortisol, the more it can excert the increase in appetite and stubborn belly fat. To release the stress is to get eight hours of sleep and regular workouts will help levels steady.
Another reason is that you tend to have more cravings. Levels of serotonin, a brain chemical that regulates appetite and mood, may drop in winter and that can trigger cravings especially carbs. Studies say that a full spectrum lightbulb, believe it or not, since the darkness of winter may be the reason serotonin levels drops. To make up for the shorter winter days, turn one on for couple of hours during the evening to trick your body into thinking there are longer daylight hours. Its worth a try!!!
And one more obvious reason is that its just plain cold outside. The temperature may do funky things to your levels of the hormone leptin, a weight regulator, one small study found. The result? Your body mistakenly thinks you're starving and produces appetite-stimulating hormones, ,so you eat more. To reduce this stimulation, snack on protein-rich foods like almonds, or have a cup of fiber-rich oatmeal for breakfast to keep leptin on the level.
Take care of your bodies during the winter season. Watch what you eat and exercise daily.

AUBURN COMES OUT..... ON TOP THAT IS!

Well there is alot to be said about this collegiate football game since the rumors of Cam Newton's money scandal. People were really trying and are still trying to get this man ineligible before the nationals on these allegations. Newton is a great football player that has 180'd Auburns football program into a winning team that was wanted by many. Jealousy much!!!! I hope that he goes all the way and win the whole freakin thing. And I am not, and I repeat I am not an Auburn fan. :)
I almost forgot. Auburn 28 Alabama 27
He's BACK!!!

Michael Vick has taken a beating from the media since his dog-fighting days. I can honestly say as a fan, he has to prove himself worthy again to the world which is crazy in my eye. But that is how the world works, when you are doing great you are praised and when are doing bad you are crapped on. This world is harsh when it comes to forgiveness.
Vicks football performance lately have shown that he is still a great athlete, much better in fact. He is more driven and has his mind ready to shut people up and get off his back about the dog-fighting that happened 2yrs ago.
I am certainly proud of him and want to continue to do great things on and off the football field.
THE NEW MASCULINE

Old school traditional workouts are no longer wanted these days. Men are taking metro to a whole other level when it comes to fitness. The meat and potatoes workout is too much. Men now what a more leaner body of the moment physique, wanting to work on specifics, like women. Men are learning to appreciate the stretching and toning workouts that women have been using for years to sculpt their bodies.
The rising popularity of yoga and related techniques like pilates has played a major role in persuading men to spend an hour to female-dominated studios. Celebrities like Mathew McConaughey and Tobey Mcguire who mix similar exercises with weights and cardio are bodies of evidence that this method works.
What workouts like Physique 57, Nalini, and Core Fusion provide is quick improvement to men's midsections. Men love the core work and results it brings. Many exercises, like squats done while leaning back from the barre so your midsection has to work in concert with your legs, are focused on strengthening the trunk. They also help prevent that lower-back pain you get from sitting at your desk all day long. And the stretching which occurs after every set if exercises, improves your cardio workouts, letting you jog or SoulCycle with less fear of pulling a muscle or tearing a hamstring. The routines also ease tension. Most men view stress relief as an ancillary benefit of going to the gym, but they don't realize how much they tax their bodies in return. Yoga, Pilates, and barre classes relieve the body from day to day stresses because these techniques unlike "traditional bicep curls" work the muscles through their full range of motion.

Arkansas vs. Auburn

I heard about this high-scoring game. It was 65 to like 43 I believe, with Auburn coming out with the victory. That is a basketball score lol. I mean it was really a tennis match between these two great football teams. I am neither a Arkansas nor a Auburn fan, so this game was meaningless to me. Sorry!! Texas all the way! But I thought I should mention this game because it made history. The first high scoring football game in the FCC. Kudos to them!!!!! ;)
Lets Go TEXAS!!!!!

10 WAYS TO MAXIMAIZE YOUR TIME AT THE GYM
.jpg)
1. ZIP YOUR LIPS. Save your daily gossip for your postworkout smoothie date.
2. GET MORE FOR LESS. Do 20 minutes of sprint intervals instead of an hour on the treadmill.
3. PLAN AHEAD. Know what exercises you want to use before you get to the gym.
4. BEAT THE RUSH. If you train during peak hours, the machines you want will probably be busy. Plan alternate moves in case you run into heavy traffic.
5. FULL RANGER. Move through your full range of motion during every repetition and always use pristine form.
6. GO HEAVY. Be a big lifter? Recruit more muscle fibers by lifting heavier weights for fewer reps.
7. FOCUS YOUR FORCE. It's easy to let your mind wander. Focus intently on your muscle contractions with every lift.
8. HAVE A (little) BREAK. Unless you're using very heavy weights, rest no more than 30 seconds between moves to increase caloric burn.
9. COMPOUND IT. Incorporate moves that utilize multiple muscle groups, such as a squad with an overhead press.
10. SHORT CIRCUIT. Combine strength moves with bursts of cardio to burn fat in little time.

THE MUST-EAT GREEN MOST WOMEN OVERLOOK

By Jenny Everett, SELF magazine
In the produce aisle, we often find ourselves in deer-in-headlights mode when we get to the greens -- there are just so many options. Lately, kale has been getting loads of attention for being a vitamin- and nutrient-packed superfood. But, aesthetically, we're drawn to watercress, with its pretty, petite leaves.
Related: 20 Superfoods for Weight Loss
Turns out, watercress gives kale a run for its money. In fact, while much more research is needed, a recent study found that watercress might reduce your risk of breast cancer, thanks to a compound that inhibits a protein related to tumor growth.
"In addition to the compound in this study, a cup of watercress contains plenty of vitamins A and C and boasts an entire day's worth of vitamin K, a nutrient that helps keep your bones strong and your heart healthy -- and just four calories," says Monica Reinagel, M.S., a nutritionist, chef and blogger for our new sister site, Nutrition Data.
"It's also a mild diuretic, which can help you shed excess fluid if you're bloated from too much salt or before your period," she added.
Here are 3 smart, easy ways to add watercress to your diet:
Related: Analyze Your Diet and Create the Perfect Meal Plan
1. Pair It With Chicken or Fish. Sulforaphane, an antioxidant in cruciferous veggies, is up to 13 times more effective at fighting cancer-causing free radicals when eaten with the mineral selenium, which is found in seafood, poultry and some vegetables.
2. Mix It Into Warm Pasta. Slightly wilted greens are easier for the body to digest, which allows you to soak up more nutritious goodness. We love this recipe for Linguine With Chile, Crab, and Watercress from Nigella Lawson's "Forever Summer" cookbook.
Related: 15 New Healthy Fall Recipes
3. Make It Part of an All-Round Heart-Healthy Meal. Preliminary research has linked watercress to cardiovascular health. While more animal and human studies are necessary, there's evidence that watercress can reduce triglycerides (a risk factor for cardiovascular disease). To further boost the heart-pampering prowess, pair it with other items from SELF's hearty-healthy shopping list. And this shrimp, watermelon and watercress salad will blow your mind.

CAN A VIRUS CAUSE OBESITY?

Could obesity be caused-at least in some cases-by the common cold? The idea, strange as it sounds, has been gaining momentum among scientists, and a recent study of children offers tantalizing new evidence, says ScienceNews.org. Researchers at the University of California at San Diego tested the blood of 67 obese and 57 normal-weight kids, ages 8-18, for the presence of antibodies against a common virus called adenovirus-36, which causes respiratory and intestinal distress. Of the kids in which antibodies were found, a remarkable 80% were obese, weighing on average 50lbs more than the kids not exposed to the virus. Earlier studies have found some evidence that adenovirus may play a role in at least some forms of obesity in adults and animals, but this is the first to examine childhood obesity. "The data add credence to the concept that an infection can be a cause or contributor to obesity," says pediatrician and study leader Jeffrey Schwimmer.
Researchers speculate that the virus may cause fat-storing cells to mature and multiply faster, or hinder the cells' ability to break down fat, causing them to grow larger. Nikhi Dhuranhar, a longtime researcher of "infectobesity," says that if some forms of extreme weight gain are caused by infection, "then there is a potential to have a vaccine to prevent this type of obesity."

A FREE DIET TRICK THAT WORKS!!!

The most effective way to lose weight, a new study says, isn't by taking pills or adopting extreme diets. It's by drinking water before meals. Nutrition researchers at Virginia Tech found that subjects who drank 16oz or about two glasses of water before each of their three daily meals lost 50% more weight than control subjects did. THe study volunteers, 48 overweight and obese men and women, were put on a low-calorie diet for 12 weeks. Half were given no instructions about what to drink; half were instructed to drink two glasses of water shortly before their meals. The first group lost 11lbs. on average, but the water group lost more-15.5lbs on average. Notably, the diet itself seems to stick: A year after the study, the water drinkers had continued the regimen on theie own and lost additional weight. Scientist aren't sure why this works, but they do know water is filling, has no calories, and may take the place of other high-calorie drinks that might be consumed. "It's a simple way to facilitate weight management," study author Brenda Davy tells Scientific American. She suggests that dieters drink from a refillable water bottle throughout the day, in addition to their pre-meal infusions.

SINCE WHEN DOES PERSONAL TRAINING BECOME ABOUT THE TRAINER?

OK, I have done alot of research about the various training techniques of different trainers around the country and come to find out, all the trainers are making videos or websites on how creative they can get. Keep in mind that the demonstrations of these radical exercises are by the trainers themselves. I am all for trainer demos on the basis of an exercise. I am a personal trainer myself and I love being creative. But can your clients do these exercises that you are so strongly demonstrating? Don't get me wrong, I am sure there are elite clients that can perform, but what about the other 90% of your clients. 8 times out of 10, they can't do these types of radical exercises.
I was taught as a trainer that when you demo you are putting yourself on display when it should be your clients. And I have strongly stuck by that. It would be better to display your clients that can perform these radical exercises or show clients that progressively attempt methods your instructing. When this takes place it becomes about clients getting better, losing weight, running faster, or whatever their individual goal is. But it also shows your methods give results in their progression.
We have to go back to the basics with trainers nowadays. The definition of a personal trainer is a person who helps people exercise. (the generic form)

HOW TO RUN LONGER AND FASTER

Who needs steroids or human growth hormones? Athletes can enhance their performance with something that is both legal and easily obtained> It's called music, says BBC.com. In a study of Australian triathletes, researchers found that listening to music tracks by the likes of Queen, Madonna, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers increased the athletes' energy efficiency by 1% to 3%, enabling them to do more with the same amount of oxygen. "Music is like a legal drug for athletes," says British researcher Costas Karageorghis. "It can reduce the perception of effort significantly and increase endurance by as much as 15%." The key is finding music whose tempo is synchronous with a runner's desired stride; Haile Gebrselassie, who recently set a new world-record marathon time, likes running to the techno pop song "Scatman," with a tempo of about 135 beats per minute. Even recreational runners, researchers say, can benefit from musical accompaniment.

OLYMPIC BOUND WORKOUTS

There are many workouts that are extreme and there are workouts that are represented for daily function. Olympic lifting is one of the toughest elements of training in the world. The advantage for olympic lifting is the effect it has on the cardiovascular sytem, using every inch of muscle in your body from head to toe to trigger a powerful movement. It is also a form of training that you can easily overtrain and injuries are pron.
If you are training for a specific sport or future competition and total body engagement is taking place, olympic lifting is what needs to take place. Building muscles to become stronger and faster effectively. Check out bodybuilding.com/fun/olympiclift.htm for more information
BLACK SPRINTERS' NAVEL ADVANTAGE

To size up a sprinters potential speed, start by examining his navel. That's the conclusion of researchers at Duke University, who dared to examine the historically verboten question: Why do African-Americans tend to run faster than whites? The answer, says Science Daily, lies with the bellybutton, which marks the body's center of gravity. An analysis of prior studies of human measurements revealed that, on average, people of West African origin have longer legs than people with European hertiage; the longer legs, and shorter torsos, place their center of gravity 3%, or roughly an inch, higher. Collating a century's worth of sprinting records revealed that this height difference translates into a 1.5% boost in speed-enough to make a big difference in the results of sprints, in which fractions of a second separate winners from losers. "Locomotion is essentially a continual falls from a higher altitude falls faster," says research leader Andre Bejan. The converse holds true for swimmers: Europeans have a 3% longer torso than West Africans, which equals a 1.5% speed advantage in the pool. The researchers were careful to note that they focused on the athletes' geographics origins and physical measurements, not race, which they deem a "social construct."

Sanya Richards-Ross TRACK SEASON ENDED EARLY

American world 400 meters champion Sanya Richards-Ross announced on Sunday that she is bringing her season to a premature end to recover from a series of injuries.
"I have been plagued with flares from my Behcet's disease, struggled with injuries, and have had unfortunate mishaps that have resulted in me having to take the remainder of the season off to recover," Richards-Ross told the IAAF website.
The 25-year-old American, named Female Athlete of the Year in 2006 and 2009, injured her quadriceps in April and started her season at the American Championships at the end of June.
She qualified for the final but had to pull out shortly before the race after twisting her ankle in the stands and has not run competitively since.

Lebron James in Miami

Ok, guys. I am not a professional basketball fan but what is the big deal about Lebron James choosing another team such as Miami Heat. I figure you go where you think its possible to win championships. So what, if there are 2 other superstars. I would think that is an even better opportunity at winning big. Professional athletes make choices based on whats going to get them to the big show and a financial reward is due, not what is best for basketball fans. Are you crazy! He can do what he wants. Relax people! Lets just watch what happens, thats all I am saying.

SERENA WINS AGAIN!!!

Serena Williams wins her 4th Wimbledon title, defeating Russia's Vera Zvonareva, 6-3, 6-2. Serena now sits alone in 6th place with 13 majors, only one in front of Billie Jean. This 28yr old lady is the most dominate tennis player I layed eyes on. Between her and her sister Venus, who can stop them. Congrats to Serena!!!!!
WHO IS GOING TO TAKE THE 2010 WORLD CUP?

These guys are playing their hearts out this year. Watching these guys play is an tiring experience, lol. I use to play when I was younger but it lead me to track and field. I am glad that I chose that sport. Because it takes some endurance to sprint up and down for a couple of hours.
I was real surprised to see Ghana lose that game to Uruguay. They were cheated. I wonder who is going to take it home. What do think?
SNACK TIME!!!

For many of us, snack time is a great time to munch on whatever you are craving at that time. But snacking can get you in trouble. I can honestly say that I am a snacker as well. I think its genetic, lol. The basic formula to snacking is opt for metabolism boosting ingredients.
Snacks such as hard-boiled eggs, all-natural peanut butter with an apple, low-fat cheese, baby carrots, and hummus just to name a few. They are high in protein and contain fiber which helps burn fat and keeps cravings at bay. Best of all, try to keep the calories fewer than 200.

WHAT DO THINK ABOUT LIQUID DIETS?

I honestly don't believe in the word diet let alone liquid diet. It is a dangerous practice I must say. Celebrities practice this faithfully to make deadlines on body image for a movie role or photoshoot. Oh yes, it works!!! Short-Term that is. As soon as you eat something of substance or get back to your regular eating pattern, the weight that just disappeared will come back times 10.
I get that people want fast results, but remember that fast results will bring you back to reality faster. I do believe in a detox. Detox is a body cleansing procedure to rid the body of toxins. A detox should only be done to 3 days to a week. And once this is completed properly, then you slowly introduce your body to healthy eating to get the body ready for your transformation. It is a process, a slow one. Lose weight the right way to keep the weight off permanently.
Let me know your liquid diet experience or what is your take on this new diet regime?

NUTRITION PER SERVING

Ok Guys, we all want to look our best this summer in the least amount of time. But I hate to tell you, just working out hard everyday is not going to cut it. You must eat smart as well. Eating clean is one of the hardest things to stick to when it comes to Health. Eating clean is watching what you put into your body at the most extreme. Monitoring calorie intake, fat, protein, sodium, fiber, sugar, and carbohydrates. Its alot, I know!!! In order to get the dream body you want or the body your frame is meant to have, this is what you have to do.
Find a eating routine that best fits your schedule and stay with it. CONSISTENCY IS KEY!!!! (includes 5-7 meals a day) Use common sense. If you think just for a second that what you are eating is not good for you, you are probably right.
In smart grocery shopping, stay away from the middle aisles. Only shop in the front, where the fruits and vegetables are, and in the back, where the fish and non-processed meats are. If you get confused, ask someone for help. Remember, the ratio of living a healthy lifestyle is 70% eating health and 30% working out.

DANG BOSTON!!!!!

I am not a huge fan of professional basketball, but I was all for the Boston Celtics in the Final NBA game. I just want someone else to win the title for a change. Yes, the Lakers have 5 championship rings, but they are not the only team to exist. After all where do you go from the championships besides getting more money, endorsements, etc. I mean, we get it!!! Or am I just sour that the Celtics lost?
Weight Training is ESSENTIAL

Weight training is common type of training to develop strength and the size of your muscular skeleton. Weight training is used in a variety of methods and specialized equipment to target certain muscle groups and types of movement.
Weight training is apart of bodybuilding, Olympic lifting, powerlifting, and strongman, which are sports rather than a certain exercise. It is also a safe form of exercise when the movements are slow, controlled, and carefully defined. However, as with any form of exercise, improper execution and the failure to take appropriate precautions can result in injury.
The benefits of weight training overall are comparable to most other types of strength training: increased muscle, tendon and ligament strength, bone density, flexibility, tone, metabolic rate, and postural support. There are benefits and limitations to weight training as compared to other types of strength training.

TEXAS HAS REMAINED LOYAL

I love my state even though I live in Atlanta. The University of Texas has remained in the Big 12. It goes to show you that no amount of money can buy this State. LOL. We make our own rules and regulations! :)
I am just tired of all the turning and twisting of collegiate sports. Whats wrong with what is right now? Oh, I get it.. MONEY!!!
Marion Jones Basketball Journey is Humbling

Marion Jones has been through hell and back in dealing with her doping charges that landed her 12-15 months in Federal prison for lying to officals. In her release, she challenged herself to enter the WNBA, knowing she has not played in 13yrs. I am her biggest fan. I believe everyone deserves a second chance. Indeed, noone is perfect and that includes professional (celebrity) athletes.
Her basketball journey has humbled her more than anything. She has to be a bench cheerleader to the rest of her teammates. Jones plays an average of 10 minutes a game and her personal stats are not worth even sharing. I believe she has to earn that trust all over again to fans of the sport and that of her teammates. But she has drew in more crowds due to the fact everyones wants to see how she adjust. I mean she is a former Olympic track and field champion. The girl has talent, period!!
Did I mention she has 3 children.....

TYSON GAY VS. USAIN BOLT DELAYED FACEOFF ONCE AGAIN...

I just want these two to race, geesh! The two fastest men in the world delayed their faceoff once again in the Adidas classic this weekend. They both sat out due to minor injuries they both sustained in practice (right on time guys). I know you have to be at your best to perform at meets such as this, especially if your main revival competitor is going to show up.
I am just wondering who will win this dual meet. I honestly have no idea. Everyone is probably like Usain, of course. But you must realize that Tyson is a force to be reckoned with too. If you get both of them in their peek, WOW! A showdown! Usain's best in the 100 is 9.58 and Tyson's best in the 100 is 9.68. Just imagine!

YOUNG FEMALE MOTORCROSS DOMINANCE

Ashley Fiolek is a 2x Womens's Motorcross Association Champion. Not only is she a champion, she is profoundly deaf. In 2008, Ashley dethroned 5x WMA champion Jessica Patterson to become the youngest WMA Champion ever. She was the first female rider featured in action on the cover of Transworld Motorcross.
I am excited for this young lady. She is making moves in a male dominated sport. I wish her great success and continued safety in the dangerous sport of motorcross. Check her out on ashleyfiolek.com

UNCOVER THOSE ABS MEN!!!!

There are so many ways that men can and will forever lose weight faster and be stronger than women. Well most women anyway. :)
Through the power of research, the most effective way for a man to get that lean muscular body that they want is through cardio. Yes, there are different forms of it. Like spinning, rowing, elliptical training, stair stepping, running, and swimming. But the most effective way is kettlebell training, specificly kettlebell snatches, can burn 20 calories a minute. The runner-up is running.
Men can stay with this program and be physically fit in just 2 weeks. Sorry ladies, its takes usalittle longer to get fit. But the hard work is well worth it. Much more rewarding because we are hardworkers at the end of a long day.

FAT USE HIGHER DURING RUNNING THAN CYCLING

Carbonhydrate is the principle fuel for exercise above 65% of maximum effort. However, metabolic rate increases 12 to 25 times above rest during exercise, so fat use increases tremendously. South African scientists showed that use was greater during running than cycling. They measured fat use indirectly during prolonged cycling and running at 60, 65, 70, 75, and 80% of maximum effort. Cycling places a more concentrated load on the leg and thigh muscles, which would increase the use of carbohydrates and decrease the use of fats.
